Warren, MI – Melissa Wheeler, social worker at Beer Middle School, was recently named School Social Worker of the Year for the State of Michigan by the Michigan Association of School Social Workers.
Earlier this year, Wheeler was named School Social Worker of the Year for Macomb County-Region M, by the MASSW.
The association chose Wheeler for her demonstrated outstanding performance in her practice and her pivotal role in bridging the gap between students, families, and educational staff by fostering a supportive environment for students’ academic and personal growth.
Wheeler has been with Warren Consolidated Schools for the past 15 years.
Wheeler went into the field of social work because she wanted to dedicate her career to improving the well-being of students, providing support to families, and linking together with the community. She believes in providing an environment where every student feels seen, heard, supported, and can succeed.
Wheeler will be honored by the Michigan Association of School Social Workers at the November state conference.
